Reimagined: A VR Animation Series

About

From Brothers Grimm to Nigerian folktales, each installment is a revolving door of art styles, each holding a drastically different world unique to the story itself. Reimagined will expand the cinematic possibilities of VR animation with its breathtaking scenes, epic sets, and fluid transitions. The series is optimized for a broad audience from first-time virtual reality users to seasoned gamers.

Inspiration for ReImagined:

After thumbing through an old book of folktales, Julie Cavaliere came across a story about a boy who is sent out into the world to learn fear. She felt inspired to rewrite the story through a female lens. To immerse the audience in this new perspective, she decided to apply her experience in filmmaking to the medium of VR and sought out the collaboration of Michaela Ternasky-Holland who agreed to lend her expertise to the project. The concept was further developed into an anthology series with the goal of “reimagining” stories.

About Quill by Smoothstep

The Reimagined series is completely hand-painted and animated in VR using Quill by Smoothstep; a VR illustration and animation tool uniquely designed to let artists be expressive and precise by allowing creators to use their hands to paint in 3D, virtual space and animate those paintings without the technical complexity of traditional animation workflows. Reimagined uses Quill to break open the possibilities of VR animation in visual effects, narrative storytelling, and worldbuilding.

Michaela Ternasky-Holland

I am not a color palette. I do not separate my interests into little compartments. I am a seamless blend of pigments and hues. My mission, to positively touch people's lives, bleeds into my love for the stage, which in turns, swirls with my strong work ethic. The product, is my expression on paper. A famous person may have said once that to write is to create a thought and idea and immortalize it.
